Gallstones – the health challenge you may not know you have
I thought it may be helpful to post about my recent challenges with gallstones, as it’s a problem I had no idea was behind many of the health issues I’ve been experiencing for some years, and it just may help explain something for my readers, too.
It was during a routine ultrasound scan on my liver, caused by a slight abnormality in blood test results from a diabetes check a couple of years ago, that I discovered I had gallstones. They said I had quite a few, but they were mostly fairly small and unless I had any severe problems with them, they would leave them alone. What they didn’t do was tell me what kind of problems gallstones might cause!
To be clear, if you have the following symptoms – several, but not necessarily all – then you may have gallstones. Read on, try some of the possible solutions, and see if they help.
- Recurring indigestion with no apparent cause – wind without bloating being a main symptom for me
- Feelings of trapped wind in your upper abdomen
- Backache in the small of your back for no apparent reason
- Nausea, vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Dark urine & clay coloured stools
- Jaundice or yellowing of the skin
Please do consult a doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or ongoing, but in the meantime, you may find relief for a while by simply drinking a glass of apple juice with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it, or rubbing geranium or rosemary oils into the area around your liver (lower right side of the chest – just under the breast area). Lemon juice is also helpful for dissolving gallstones, as are pear juice, psylium, milk thistle, dandelion root and castor oil.
